Step by Step
- Anaesthesia: We apply a topical numbing gel before the local anaesthetic injection. Once fully numb, you will feel pressure but not pain throughout the procedure.
- Access: A small opening is made in the crown of the tooth to access the pulp chamber and root canals.
- Cleaning: Specialist instruments are used to remove the infected pulp tissue and clean the canal walls. We use irrigation solutions to disinfect thoroughly.
- Shaping and filling: The canals are shaped and then filled with a biocompatible material called gutta-percha, which seals them permanently.
- Restoration: The tooth is restored with a filling or crown to protect it and restore full function.
Most root canal treatments at Family Dental Clinic are completed in one or two appointments. After treatment, some tenderness for a few days is normal — over-the-counter pain relief manages this well for most patients.
